Friday Blessing in Disguise, Glenda Torres Talamantes and her new life

At the young age of seven, Glenda Torres Talamantes was placed into foster care due to physical and mental abused caused by her biological mother. Glenda says the abuse made her feel unwanted by many. As many abused children she had a hard time trusting individuals that came into her life. She had a low self esteem because of feeling rejected from the abuse. By the age of eight years and nine months she was placed in adoptive care. This is when her life as she knew it would change forever.

Mr & Mrs. Torres already had children, however Mrs Torres wanted another baby and was unable to have one. This is when they went to the foster home where Glenda was. Before this day they never knew Glenda or even met her before. This was the first time they would learn of her life. At the age of eight years and nine months she was officially adopted. These are the ones Glenda considers her parents to this day.

The Torres family gave Glenda a chance to another life, and able to live as a child. Even with everything that came along with raising an abused child they accepted her for her. Glenda states, "They accepted me with all my flaws and made me a part of their family. That was the best thing in life they could have done for me. I could never THANK them enough."

Personally I have grown to know Glenda through about six years of social networking. She is a very spiritual, caring, loving woman that I myself has turned to. I would say the Torres family has raised a very remarkable young woman. I am sure when they first came into her life she never knew how much of a blessing they would be and remain today.

Friday is blessing day here on Blessing in Disguise. Each Friday will be featured a new individual who has been blessed in some way or is a blessing themselves. In hopes through these individuals others will be inspired. If you would like to be featured or know someone who would like to be please email me reneehutchinson1968@gmail.com

    2. Thank you all so much for reading my story. I am the one truly blessed. By God giving me a second chance at life. At not even a year old.. I learned from my paper work my mother had tried to suffocate me by chocking me until I was blue in the face. I went through many years of abuse before being taken out of this environment. God was my strength through it all. I will forever be grateful to him for this.

  5. I just watched a tv show the other day about foster children and "the system" with all it's flaws. A Foster Mom said something that stuck. She said her Foster child was "someone she chose to love". That rings true with Glenda's story, I think. As a Foster child, finding a family that wants to love you must be everything. I'm happy to hear Glenda is such an amazing grown woman with a supportive and happy family life.

    1. Jessica do you remember what the show was called? I would like to watch it myself. I adopted my son as well who was abused. I agree he was chosen to love, just as Glenda. Thank You for your wonderful comment.

  10. Hello This is Glenda Torres Talamantes. I want to take time to THANK YOU ALL for taking the time to read my story. There is so much more to my story but with less detail it made it easier for me to write. I do want to say Thank you for allowing me to share my story. All my life.. I wanted to adopt a child. I wanted to give back as I was given. It is hard though. If you don't have money or the right house etc. You can not adopt! What ever happen to just being able to LOVE Someone else? I wish I would just be given that chance. In my abuse.. I always remember telling my adoptive Father (Abel) I never ever wanted children. I did not want to be a repeat of what my Mother was to me. I THANK GOD EVERY DAY FOR NOT LISTENING TO ME AND HAVING FAITH in me to give me 3 of my very own to love! I over came what other's tend to think... Once abused you will abuse! I threw that out the window! I am a survivor and I will fight till the end. Once again Thank you all and Renee Hutchinson! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering me to be apart of this. Blessing in Disguise :)

    1. I am so glad you shared. Each time you will be able to share more and more. It is helpful to talk about it, its a form of counseling.

Don't every think you won't be able to adopt. If you really want to don't give up it will happen. :)

  11. It's truly sad when you hear stories like this. I have known many people who went through similar situations and it hurts you through life. When I look at my son, I find it really hard to believe that any parent can do something so horrible to their own child. It's heart breaking and just shows you how rotten things can truly be. Glad to know there was a happy ending to this story.

    1. Thank You Lexie. Yes it effects the rest of your life when your an abused child. Its so hard to others to understand when they can't see the damage on the outside, to explain the damage on the inside.
